MNP’s Growth in Quebec
With our growth accelerating in Quebec over the last few years, we take a look at the story behind the numbers – and our plans for the future.
With more than 125 offices across the country, coast-to-coast, MNP is physically present in more locations across Canada than any other professional services firm. Our significant geographic footprint makes it easy to forget that we only crossed the Manitoba-Ontario border less than 20 years ago. MNP initially opened our first office in Kenora, Ontario, in 2004, and then our Toronto office in 2008. Since then, our growth in Eastern Canada has been rapid — and, in the last two years, nowhere has this been truer than in Quebec.
MNP first entered the Quebec marketplace in 2011 through a merger with the Montreal-based firm WSBG (Wasserman, Stotland, Bratt, Grossbaum). Over the following decade we grew steadily to more than 300 professionals, building successful and well-respected niches with a strong community focus. We knew, however, that Quebec still had much more to offer – and believed that we had much more to offer Quebec.
As part of our 2019-2024 Strategic Plan, we had decided that we wanted to “develop our thinking about a presence in Quebec outside of Greater Montreal”. As part of this process a subset of our Partners, under the direction of our Firm's Board of Directors, were tasked with considering this along with our Broader Quebec Strategy. The conclusion: MNP would expand into Quebec markets beyond the urban centres – something that has always been at the core of our firm’s culture and DNA.
Timing is everything; not long after that decision was taken, we began discussions with Deloitte over the acquisition of a subset of their Private Enterprise business in Canada. Significantly, that deal included more than 20 offices, 50 partners and 500 team members in Quebec. Overnight, our presence in the province grew exponentially, aligning with the strategic goal agreed with the Board, the previous year.
But the story doesn’t end there. Our commitment to and visibility throughout the province has opened doors to new relationships. Since 2022 we’ve added several further mergers, including in Laval, through mergers with Josée Turpin’s and Jean-Luc Quenneville’s practices, as well as opening our first office in Quebec City, following our merger with Malenfant Dallaire. We’ve added new Consulting services through our merger with Trigone. Today, our Quebec Consulting practice includes more than 50 professionals, enabling us to add even greater value to our clients across the region. We’ve also invested in the resources and infrastructure needed to do business in the province, notably in our Translation team which has more than doubled in size since the start of 2021.
As we look to the future, we’re proud to have grown to nearly 1,300 partners and team members across our 26 offices in Quebec — and there are still areas that we are looking to expand to. We made 17 partner promotions in 2023 (in addition to seven direct admit entries to our partnership) and continue to look for great people to join our teams across the province. We’re also keenly focused on living our values, by supporting and looking for opportunities to be part of the communities in which we live and work.
Our growth in Quebec has been one of the most exciting stories in our firm’s recent history. We’ve made incredible strides in just a few short years — and we’re not done yet!
